Coyote Mounts
by Reimond Grignon
In Maine coyotes travel in packs and stay in an area until all other game that they can find has been consumed. Then they move on to a new area. It is common to hear them howling at night.
This wonderful mounted coyote was a beautiful yellow toned coyote. Many people have mistaken this picture to be an actual shot of a live coyote, but in actuality is just a picture of the mounted coyote that I took outside and placed in the snow.
I have won numerous times in World, and National Taxidermy competitions in the Master Mammal Category. I make them look real.....
Above is a coyote I mounted for young boy who managed to catch his first coyote trapping. To catch a coyote in a trap is a real feat and takes a lot of determination and effort. These animals are probably one of the smartest animals in the world and are very difficult to trap.
Coyotes get very large here, much larger than its western counterparts and these animals come in several different shades of color from gray, brown, almost black to orange as seen in the above photos.
They are very common now through out Maine, despite efforts to eradicate them. The animals are very trap shy and it takes a highly skilled trapper to catch one. They also have been found to have the ability to "throw up" food that has been poisoned thus saving themselves.
Coyotes are considered to be probably the smartest animal in the world. They can survive almost anywhere, even moving right into town and cities in the west.
Coyotes make great rugs!
